RE: southern pumpkins

Bryan,

I live in Monroe which is right between Atlanta and Athens. It is a
rural area located just beyond the hustle and bustle of Atlanta's
suburban communities.

North Georgia grows quite a bit more pumpkins than the rest of the state
due obviously to the relatively hospitable climate. Burt's Pumpkin Farm
in Dahlonaga grows 200-300 pounders every year. I need to make contact
with the owner this year and let him know of this mailing list and to
see if he would have any interest in a regional weigh-off.

Georgia's climate and soil is definately more suited for watermelons
than pumpkins. I believe the next world record watermelon will be grown
somewhere in the southeast.
