Way back in the genetic ancestry of the Atlantic Giant Pumpkin (C. maxima)
you will find three different pumpkin varieties which Mr. Howard Dill used
in the 1970's to breed his now famous, and our favorite, pumpkin; they are
Goderich Giant, Genuine Mammoth and Mammoth Tours. It seems that the
Goderich and the Tours are now extinct varieties. (If anyone knows
different I'd love to have seed.) However, there is a good chance that
Genuine Mammoth is still kicking around, still grown by a few seed savers
and offered by at least one or two seed companies as Mammoth or Large
Mammoth.
In an old garden seed book, published 1885 there is a picture of Mammoth,
which is attached. I'm planning on growing it this coming season. The pic
is 35K . If any are angry about that size, simply highlight this message
and push your delete button before clicking on the paper clip, icon, etc.
I got a scanner for Xmas and I hope this works with the e-mail list.
