Rick - I have a suspicion that the sport will turn to cross-breeding when
the current seed line maxes out.. until then it will be too much fun to aim
for another big one with existing stock. It sounds like we are at least
minimally covered from plague or blight since a few people already have
seed banks in their basements that preserve diversity. However, pumpkin
organizations could add an incentive: prizes for new crosses (judged by
size or other metrics) and the like. It wouldn't be much of a stretch from
what we already do.
