Zoo Doo,
I wonder if it was me? I know Tim and I are active growers here in Central
Florida. I may have typed a message about Tim's FL record. I apologize if that
was me.
Tim did beat the last FL record by over 200 lbs. A real accomplishment!.
We were chatting last night and have decided to stay in close touch throughout
our growing season. I am delighted that things are coming together nicely so
far. Weather is cooperative, good compost is readily available, and we both
have connected solidly to our cooperative extension ag offices. Their support
along with both of us having a friend in our respective master gardeners (they
BOTH grow pumpkins) has made a big difference.
Tim pointed me to a compost group that is a digest format. The information
shared is phenomenal. It's good to know there are people out there who
willingly give of their time and information so that others can benefit from
their experience.
Because I am also leading a 4-H group who is growing pumpkins, I went to Wal-
Mart today to ask if I could have any broken bags of dirt, manure, fertilizer,
and was surprised to learn that the manager of the nursery was delighted to
have me take it! He asked me to check back once per week, and he would put all
breaks on a pallet and wrap it up for me. I will go there this coming Friday
and he promised to have about a month's worth of stuff for me.
You can imagine my delight at his offer. He also made me promise to come every
Friday, so the stuff doesn't collect too high! What luck! I hope I have this
much luck once the seeds germinate!
See you in cyberspace, my friend!
