G'day All,
After having one pollination fail due to heat I started to grow a
replacement and when I got home today it had blown up. I decided to cut that
vine off as there was not a lot of growing meduim available there and found
there were two more fruit on it - damn! I continued pruning and discovered a
pumpkin lurking in the middle of the patch It had grown without my noticing
and quickly, I cut it out and put it on the bathroom scales 10.5 kg (23lbs).
It would be interesting to let some of the rogues go and see how they do.
There is still a good sized fruit on the Zehr which is progressing well and
two on the Bobier also doing well. Also still signs of leaf curl on the
younger leaves and growing numbers of white fly.
Does anyone have a method of keeping the parrots off the sultana grapes. I
have a crab apple tree and let them have a feed of them so they can leave
the grapes alone. For some reason birds seem to prefer sultana grapes and
leave dark ones for later. I have sewed up a bunch of bags from the matrix
weed mat and tied them on with twisties, that should let the air in and keep
the birds out I think.
