I signed back on now that I am getting inspired for spring planting. I
love January planning time; seed catalogues, a fire in the fireplace,
rain coming down, my comfy chair and something hot to drink. I think I
like the planning almost as much as the growing.
This will be my second year of Giants. First year was a bust. I went to
the weigh off and bought THE BOOK. So now I should be more prepared,
however.... I need to let my vines grow over the grass at the end of the
garden and I need advice. How do you keep the grass from taking over the
pumpkin's personal space? I think part of my problem last year was that
the long grass (I was afraid to move the vines to mow under them) kept
my pumpkins wet and encouraged the rot that took their lives. How do
those of you who grow in your back yards do it?
It is always moist in Western Washington so fungus is a real problem. I
try not to use any chemicals in the garden, I know there are other
organic gardeners out there what do you do to prevent rot?
By the way, I was sick for a couple days and came back to 205 e-mails.
It's good to be back on the list!
