Heres a hard one which is better to plant from the big mama or from her
offspring.........
Was glancing through the Eaton pedigree book looking for any type of
pattern.....so I counted the top 25 pumpkin mothers of "96" that came from
under 700pounders I was shocked to see that 80% were grown from mother seed
under 700.....In 97 this thought wasn't as true only 44% followed that
pattern until i looked at the grandparents..
So i compared the two years.
top 25 of 96= motherseed 80% were from under 700.. 60% of these had a
Large grandma over 700
top 25 0f 97= motherseed 44% were from under 700.. 68 % of the large
mother seed came from grandma under 700....
Although I need more years like 94,95 to see if theres a pattern ....but it
seems just as important to go back and plant offspring from a big cross
even if it doesn't break 700 ..........brock
