Greetings!
Not sure if this would work, but a friend of mine wrote a pedigree program for
dogs, and it goes back many generations. It works well and is in use as I
type. Would this not work for plants? Same format, after all, the male stud
dogs are usually bred to many females, likewise, the bitches are bred a number
of times to different males. Many offspring and traits to track, ie color,
size and conformation (appearance) ......the same is true for the fruit of
pumpkins. This way, you could track whether your 1006 seed actually pollinated
a female flower on another plant, or if your 1006 female flower was selfed or
crossed with pollen from a male flower of another seed.
Rather than starting from scratch, it might make sense to contact this fellow
to see if he would modify his program and send it on disks to download?
Next question, who wants to assume the role of Great Pumpkin Data Base
Manager? Not I. Too much key entry for me. I can help, though in other ways.
In order for this to work, all of us would have to be careful to provide
accurate info to the database. If you cannot make these committments, the
database is worthless.
How serious are you about this?
