West Aussie stuff

Sorry about the lack of recent reports from the this side of the
country. Very busy over here - working heaps and a spot of the flu has
caused a bit of trouble keeping up with the mail.
The pumpkin vine itself is looking great - nice really big leaves that
are dark green and thick and luscious - all the water must really be
helping, but as far as giant pumpkins go - no sign of life yet. I've
had only a few female flowers (less than 10 on both vines total), and
all have aborted for one reason or another (the heat isn't doing thme
any favours). There are heaps and heaps of male flowers still, but a
definite lack of female action. Not a good omen for a world record in
my first year - at the moment i'm considering buying a pumpkin to take
to the weighoff! Not really, but time is deinitely ticking by at a
very fast rate.
I'm exhausted and pretty grumpy at the moment - working too much, not
enough sleep, heaps of car troubles, and a cold don't add up to make
me a happy boy, but it's a long weekend and I'm going to go away and
do absolutely nothing except a little bit of surfing and fishing and
heaps of sleeping.
Stewart - you sound like you're having a great year and I'm insanely
jealous - have a good trip to the place with the funny name.
I hope everyone else is well and that the pumpkins are growing fast.
I'll be back in a couple of days refreshed and ready to tackle a big
list of unread pumpkin mail.
