cracked and blown seed

I just received a gracious letter from Jack and Sherry LaRue. I wrote
Sherry about her kilo-pounder and it's nearly invisible crack to the
cavity. I felt that her having to come forward to point this out to the
judges ( they would not have noticed it) and to insist that the GPC
rules apply to their findings ( the crowd wanted the pumpkin to be
admitted) showed the type of character that makes giant pumpkin growing
such a great sport to be associated with. Along with there letter came
seeds from some damn big pumpkins. Jack LaRue mentioned that he had
problems with his seed this year with many being cracked or blown open.
In examining these seeds I see what he is talking about. What is one to
think of a seed who's shell is cracked to one degree or another?
