pumpkins v. squash?

Nic and Brett bring up good points about giant squash. What would be the
ratio of AG's planted to that of giant Squash? 10:1? How many growers give
all their time and effort to giant pumpkins and have a single squash
growing over in the corner of the garden. The largest squash grown is in the
high 900's, I believe. Thats only about 100 lbs behind the largest pumpkin
and at this ratio it says even more. Who knows how large squash could get
with more people planting them.

But then again, what if you grow a 1100 pound squash? Who would
really take notice? The fact is giant squash just don't get the attention
that a giant pumpkin gets. Most people just think they are an unripe
pumpkins. Its too bad that there isn't more incentive to grow giant squash.
However, I think growing giant squash are just as interesting as giant
pumpkins and plan to plant at least 1 squash plant this year. I plan to go
with the Rockwell 879. Is it just me or have others noticed that squash
tend to weigh heavy more often than not?
Any other thoughtson this subject?
