I am curious. About how many members are using this posting site?

I have a few questions:

1. Is there any problem with rodents, such as field mice, if I were to use
straw as a mulch?

2. At what point do I start misting the plants (85 degrees, 90 degrees)?
Does humidity come into play here? How about wind speed?

3. Are there any lists available with small regional weigh-offs (especially
in the mis-west), dates, historical weights?

4. I am interested in acquiring seeds with a history of good shape, good
orange color and weight of 700lbs or better. I understand there were several
at the 1998 Canfield, Ohio weigh-off that fit this description. If you can
help in this area, please let me know.

Tom-
As of today, Jan 12, there are 244 subscribers to "Pumpkins"
and 77 subscribers to "Pumpkins-digest".
(including Wally who sent his unsubscription to the wrong email address)
 Wally send it to majordomo@mallorn.com
(if any one forgets it says where to send an unsubsribe, it is at the bottom of every post you get)

My guess is that there are a people that are subscribe to both the list and the digest. So the answer to you question is about 300.
other questions:

1) I would think that you would be ok with straw as mulch, unless you have
a lot of rodents around already. Then they might be a problem even with out
straw as mulch.

2) I don't think there are any set rule here. you'll just have to do the best you can when the time comes. certainly if it is the drier outside more mist will evaporate, which is fine because that helps to cool down the air. you also may want to mist more on dry days just for watering purposes. The wind just blows the mist around - is this good or bad?, hard to tell, it depends on your set up and how much wind. You are in the right temp. range. above 90° F female flowers(pumpkins) will not set after pollination and smaller, immature pumpkins will abort. but misting beginning at 85°F would probably be a good idea.

 3) & 4) : I don't know. others will have to help here.
