Not sure all folks are aware of the straw bale houses that are being built using
the strawbales as insulation. I would NEVER TAKE the risks on my
home!!.............but there is somethng here........Supposedly the R factor is
50............most homes are R-19 with fiberglass insulation........have done
some test starting tomatoes with cold frames designed to includes bales of hay.
the results are great ! this is a good method to retain heat .....so if the
perimeter of the house is bales then covered with plastic the heat is held
well. you have to design to include the best sunlight.
Another technique to warm the ground is to dig a pit toss in some bales add
nitrogen then bury the ground will warm ....a aeration pipe under the bales help
there decompsition as the decompose heat is given off big time!!!
Warming water from coils in a decomposing compost pile has also worked well!!!
Just some food for the thoughts...............brock
