Age, Value and Teams

Here are my three cents worth.
Age:
Before spring of 1998 I was 17. Now I'm 67. My drivers license says I'm
42.

Value:
The information gleaned from this list is nearly priceless. So much
experience is available at a touch of a button that it is almost scary.
At no other time in history could people help each other from such
distances and diverse backgrounds. The technical information shared and
grown by this list is second only to the growing sense of community I
see forming among members of this list. The coming together of common
interests and goals is what communities are made of. How do you place a
value on that?

Competition,Teams,Prizes:
Recently, the excitement of competition among some east and West Coast
growers has sparked some harried and excited posts. There seems to be
geographic holes where participation is considerably less than others.
Might I suggest that we form a list wide competition that transcends the
geographic boundaries limiting us now?

Here's how it might work.
First we build a list wide roster of growers interested in competing.
Growers need not post to the list regularly to participate, merely
commit to the goal of the team and correspond with team members as
needed. We then apply some good old fashion randomness when dividing the
group into teams, regardless of geographic location. Team members will
communicate with each other via email and this list. A teams score is
determined by averaging the weight of each team members pumpkin. One
pumpkin per team member. Two competition could run per calendar year,
one for the Americas and one for European countries.
Perhaps Mike N. would post the teams and their members name and email
addresses on his web site?

What do you think?
