Not that we've grown the BIG one yet, but  some pretty heavy hitters in  our
area recommend getting a little head start in peat pots, and  the plants hit
the ground up and fighting! germination planned to put the seedling in the
ground as soon as the first true leaf is up(no later) under the protection
of a portable greenhouse(by the way ours are up and ready to start warming
the soil as soon as the snow melts) and about 4 weeks ahead of normal
planting time in our area .(New England)
Also provides a little instant gratification because we already know the
seed won't  rot in the ground.
