Subject: Dill Rings -- my definition
Dill (sag) rings = transversely oriented grooves seen in the pumpkins
surface which correspond to an internal V-shaped transverse crack.
These are "weak spots" in the wall which can result in a crack into the
pumpkin cavity. They probably occur more often in fruit with a
relatively thin wall for its size and shape, unable to fully support its
weight.
