Self-it??
I have noticed that alot of growers are going with the "self it"
style. i notice alot of top growers not following suit.
Why?........have they seen something..........I think its hard to get to
the third and fourth generation with consistant selfing. So we really
don't know if its a good idea or not. Why because there hasn't been
any fireworks from selfed pumpkins. Damn there was a 1000lb from a
selfer the 490 donkers........ would have been great if that had been
selfed. Just to see what would happen . Is it to early to tell or does
it not really make a difference in all the variables put to a giant
pumpkin. Are conditions still the deciding factor?? It doesn't matter
if you self til the cows come home..............will we ever be able to
control the maverick D.A.G.................when it is evolving like us.
Were getting taller, living longer, the pumpkins are getting bigger and
heavier able to take up more food and water. Are you better off to
plant from the best in your area rather than get seed from a much
different climate?? are the seeds programed for that area? Evoving
takes time lots of it ..but there are little programs that seem to
happen . Take for instance someone who lives in a warm area always 70
and above. They come up and visit and its 68 out and there freezing
their butts off. And your in a T shirt . You get programed. Do these
plants??.............................brock
