the plant of my 1092 had 3 main vines. the first main
vine ran north to south and the end was buried when it
reached 23 feet.the 2 other main vines ran east and
west for 10 feet and then i curled them around to run
parallel with the north - south main vine. i let them
run for a few feet and then cut the ends off and buried
them.all secondary vines starting on the east-west mains
were pruned when they started. the secondary vines
coming off the north-south main were trained to follow
the same pattern as the east-west mains but i allowed
them to run a few feet farther eah time.the total width
of space the 1092 grew on was 20 feet. i left work and
came home and pollinated it on june 24, it was 8 feet
out from the stump on the n-s main vine.i started 4 pumpkins
on the plant and within 2 weeks it was clear which one
was the keeper so i cut the rest off.on july 13 it
measured 77 lbs. ,on july 27 it measured 387 lbs. ,on
aug 17 it measured 826 lbs. , on sept. 7 it measured 984
lbs. and the final measurement i took suggested it weighed
approx. 1050 lbs on oct. 2 .
i want to clear something up about MY seeds.i was able
to keep 100 seeds out of the 1092 and pt.elgin received
the rest. i had promised approx. 40 out to friends and
family and i planned on keeping about 20 for myself before
all the phone calls, emails and letters started coming
in. by the middle of october i had hundreds of requests
and 40 seeds.i answered every request and either sent
them seeds out of my 1092 plus other seeds or just sent
them other seeds , it was there choice! i did not want
to choose one person over another.
