The 991 is a very strong and healthy growing plant.  Was there any heat
stress, sort of sounds like the tip got fried.  Not the end of the world
though take and grow a secondary off of it, slows you down but is better
than nothing.  Was the ground dry under these delicate tips??  Does not
take much heat radiated back off the ground to cook them.  Done this many
times and finally have a patch with automated watering so I can throw
enough water out there.  Foggers also help for me when we reach the 100*s
here in the valley of Ca.  Also might be fertilizing or pest damage, but
sounds like heat too me.
