re:tertiaries
I put alot of faith in the trim-your-tertiaries theory -- I do it
myself... but only because everyone says so. I'm curious as to who
cultivated (gardener's pun there) this theory? Has theory been bouncing
around AG growers for some time now or is it relatively new? Who was
the original proponent of this idea? Have people been tracking this?
I'm not trying to step on any sacred AG cows here, I'm just curious.

Hi Josh....ABSOLUTELY NOT. It is believed that main vines and secondary
vines produce food/nourishment for the plant(good) and that tertiaries
likely
use up more food than they create (bad). The food that the tertiaries use
could be going to the pumpkin instead. It is also believed ,(although
the
urge is to get more plant by growing tertiaries), that a well pruned
plant
will actually produce a larger pumpkin. trim those tertiaries
asap...when
they are little buds if possible.......GlennA
