small pumpkin split

I have a question for the list. I have a pumpkin set that is the size of a 
baseball but at the blossem end there is a very small split an 1/8 inch wide 
and maybe 3\16 long with some dry sap around the end . will this heal itself 
or get worse?. Any input would be appreiciated. John Derry N.H
