Mike,
           There are different schools of thought on pruning.  This is for 
sure.  Here is mine in your situation.  I would prune the secondaries back to 
no longer than 20 feet, maybe as far back as 15 feet and bury them.  There is 
no need to have that much extra growth.  If you have a plant with fifteen 
foot secondaries and a 25 foot main, you have plenty of solar panels 
(leafs)to support your pumpkin(s).  I know some big time growers like Mombert 
are trimming every other or every third secondary as well.  I am pulling 
every third secondary off.  Note: would not terminate the main until you have 
the set you want on the main.  Then I would wait til the main was at least 8 
feet beyond the main til I terminated.  Some guys never terminate their main.
