Call it beginners luck, out of 13 pollination attempts
on three plants, I had 13 pumpkins set. I got up each
morning before the bees did and cut freshly opened
males off the plants and brought them indoors. Then I
pollinated and hour or two later after the sun was up
when the air temperature was between 70 and 80.
Two of my plants, a 937 Mombert and an 875 Dill have
suffered a serious set-back. They have been hit hard
by Anthracnose, a fungal disease which attacks young
leaves. Even worse, I stopped all fertilizing for
over a month, thinking it was over-fertilization
causing the problem.
I've learned that the use of fungicides is required if
you use misters to keep the plants cool.
I've culled each plant to one pumpkin now. Here are
their 20 day benchmarks:
937 Mombert: Athena 43" circ. 108 OTT
875 Dill: Hera 42" circ. 111 OTT
947 Patrick: Aphrodite 56" circ. 135 OTT
Aphrodite is the pumpkin to watch. A perfectly shaped
six lober; so pretty she takes your breath away and
expanding faster than the universe.

This page takes a while to load if you don't have DSL
but it is worth the wait.
Good growing to all pumpkin shepards.
