...Which brings me to my next question... could planting both in the
same patch cause problems??? I have always heard that you shouldn't plant
gourds near the melons because the melons would be bitter but I never
really knew if that is true.
I really do appreciate all of the advise. I have decided to take out
{sniff, sniff, another tissue please} all but the two best pumpkin vines.
There are several that have done extremely well and I will leave them.
Would there be a problem if I just cut the rejects off at the ground and
allowed them to dry up or I am setting myself up for a fungus or disease of
some sort? They have grown so thick that I am afraid that if I get in
there and start pulling I may break up the ones that I am trying to save.
As to the watermelons, their vines are very compact {Sugar Baby variety)
and they are headed off in a direction all of there own, so at least for
now, I'm going to leave them alone. Thanks again, Jetta in Virginia
