RE: those non-AG plants

That's like saying melons are melons and cantaloupes will cross with
watermelons--it won't happen. Or Smallmouth Bass with Walleye--it won't
happen.

Polen is polen right? Doesn't matter where it comes from. Isn't that
why we cover the female flowers so polen from a different source
doesn't polenate the pumpkin flowers.

PS. lions and tigers can cross if the female and male are put together.
Sperm is sperm. Doesn't matter where it comes from as long as it finds
an egg.

TJ:

Just as lions and tigers don't cross, neither will AG and Lumina.
Doesn't
matter which sex does what, no cross will take place. It's like crossing
apples and oranges. It's NOT going to happen.

If you want an AG sized white pumpkin, get some seeds from a grower who
has
proven out seeds that are known to throw white skinned fruit. Should be
easy.

I will add this: wasn't careful when my Cinderella pumpkins vined out
near my
AG in 98, got some Cinderella's that were lighter skinned and fat. I
failed
to check the seed packet, but learned later that both AG and Cinderella
pumpkins are maximas.

Cinderella, with it's long skinny stem, flat shape, dark red color and
mild
ribbing crossed with the cumbersome, oversized AG with light skin, thick
flesh and massive stem~a very odd cross. Qualities from both came
through,
even though both varieties are polar opposites.
