Art,
I've seen in some garden catalogs a motion activated sprinkler for that
purpose. I'll try to see if I can find them. Also I know they make some
things to keep cats out. a pad you lay on the ground that has prickly things
on them( they do NOT harm them). Might work for dogs.
I think I've seen these things in Jung seed catalog. Good luck
