Yo Casey,
         My personal best 743lb had a split from about the 10th day on the
stem..but it held off..I made sure that no stress was on the vine at all.A
few years back I did see a photo of a pumpkin with a stem split that had a
piece of rubber wrapped round and held in position with 2 jubilee clips to
stop the split opening up. It must have worked because the fruit made it to
a weigh-off...and it looked a hugh fruit.
