Requiem for a Goddess

My biggest pumpkin, child of Athena (789 Zunino), split at the blossom end last night.  At 26 days, 212 OTT (est. 209 pounds) her life was split asunder by powerful unknown forces. A child of the gods, she leaves this mortal world after a short journey that had no meaning and led nowhere.
For all her beauty, I think she had thin skin and thus could not cope with this harsh plant and it's intense gravitational field.  I will miss her but a flicker of hope, a happy female bud, sits 24 feet out on the main vine.  When it opens in a few days, my bright orange dreams may begin anew.

All is not morose in the dragon patch.  Two fruit still frolic wildly in the rear patch - defying gravity and the common sense to grow modestly.  Both broke 60" circ. in less than 18 days and are larger than the biggest fruit ever grown was at this tender age.

The little lizard, child of the dragon Calai, is 67" circ. at 18 days from pollination and is solid as a rock.  I have named him Beowoulf, slayer of dragons.  OTT is 156.

Not to be outdone, the 983 Ciliberto is growing a perfect white orb which hit 62" circ in 18 days.  I have named this beauty, Bellaluna, beautiful moon.  OTT at 18 days was 152.

For comparison, the 1,190 Checkon, "Womper" was 137 OTT at 18 days.

I have a web cam set-up on Beowoulf.  You can watch to see if he can keep up the pace set by the Womper.

I can dream, can't I? - at least for a while.
