There is actually experimentation going on up here in Canada with
irradiated pollen, on mellons etc. however, when you irradiate pollen ,
or anything else, the irradiation causes mutations in the DNA but not
necessarily to cause a bigger pumpkin. I have spoken with Department
of Agriculture here on a number of occasions and they tell me that they
irradiate the pollen and then distribute it over and entire field of
plants, and maybe a dozen or so will express the desired traits they are
looking for. When I irradiate organism at work, I work with several
thousand. Out of those several thousand irradiated maybe 5 or so show
the desired traits, so maybe it's not the best way to go if you are
thinking that it will get you a bigger pumpkin right away.
