Re: AG growth rate.
My experience with the 10/20/30 benchmarks has been rather
convoluted. The first year I measured, my closest pumpkin to
the benchmarks: 10 days-20", 20-56" and 30-94" ended up being
my smallest pumpkin est. at 567 lbs. The plant was my
healthiest plant too. This pumpkin was fast out of the gate
but just couldn't follow through - didn't want to be no bigger.
My slowest growing pumpkin that year from the Mombert 937: 10
days-under 20", 20-43", 30-83" turned out to be my largest
weighing 789 lbs, the third largest in California that year.
Then last year from the dragon 846 Calai: 10 days-27", 20
days-75", 30 days-106" - damn, you could see it swelling up.
This is the one that shoulda, woulda, coulda, but the plant got
sick, I over fertilized it and I underpruned it. Still got 831
lbs., but this one wanted to be a whole lot bigger, I just blew
the grower care thing badly.
And this year - nothing exciting. I have two that hit 21" on
day ten but no fireworks - they are growing consistantly so
maybe I'll hit the sweet spot, maybe maybe....
