How quickly after pollination?

To the list,
     How quickly if at all is the female parts of the pumpkin supposed to fall off?  Forgive me for not knowing the correct plant part names, or remembering this from my bio-chem classes in college (wasn't my major anyway), I am curious if what we pollinate on the female end of the plant with the male end, whether or not that is supposed to fall off?  I should have thought of this several days ago.  Obviously my PUKOS still has hers attached and has somewhat been stunted in the growth department.  I urgently need an answer to this from anyone who has the time.  Thank-you
