What did the inside look like ? Any rot?

I vote keep it dry.  Out here in Calif we shade and cover the stump with little tents to keep them dry and cool.  If you have any 5 gallon plastic buckets you can cut them in half length wise and make two  domes to use on stumps.  Best of luck...Mb
