The organicsters don't grow AGs,
EXACTLY.
And if their whole season came down to having one zucchini on one plant in the fall you'd see nets around the whole plant and a camoflaged ninga applicator spraying warrior-T under the cover of darkness. You see, organic approaches accept the fact that there will be loses....giant pumpkin growing is a "go for broke--it all depends on this one " ordeal....we cannot afford a single loss when its the only game in town. Organic approaches are great.....when they work well. They are acceptable, when they work well enough. There is inbetween ground here....some pests need pesticides, fungisides. Some are dismissable with organic approaches. 100% is not feasable in this hobby. Perhaps the pro-organics can lighten up a bit and accept a changing attitude away from OVERUSE of pesticides and a move towards RESPONSIBLE USE of pesticides as a giant step towards preserving or cleaning our environment. Having a praying mantis in your patch is not the answer....LOL
My season? Well, in an attempt to minimize my impact on the environment I slacked off on my preventative fungal program and in a matter of two days lost 40 percent of my leaves to a fungus that blew in from the south.(the mantid just laughed at me).....and, the main tip blew at 9 feet before a pumpkin set, the back main tip blew at 9 feet, and 11 secondaries blew thier tips.....then all the females on the secondaries decided to open up on July 2 (95degrees), july 3(96degrees) and July 4 (96degrees)....of which none lasted. Ive set a few on tertiaries though......
The clone, however, is enjoying its third summer and is healthy and happy.
All in All , a typical year here Kathy !!!...............................G
