RE: pumpkin questions

Bindy,
Are you thinking about competing in a weigh-off this year? I ask because I'm
organizing a Western Montana competition - The First Annual Bitterroot
Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. I think the Bitterroot Valley is closer to you than
other sites...so this is an FYI. Also, I'd be thrilled to get some
out-of-towners interested too. Think about it. Then, join us. See this
Cornfield Maize website www.cornfieldmaze.com as they have agreed to host
our competition, north of Hamilton. I have no idea what kind of
participation we'll get this first year, but I know of several "newbie"
folks trying their luck in their pumpkin patches. Mark Oct. 5th on your
calendar - we'll see you then, right?
Hope so.

Subject: pumpkin questions

7/21/02

Hi there. I just subscribed to you list. I have a question.

I am a beginner on pumpkins and do not know what tertiary vines are? Is
there anywhere to get a picture of these so I know what to prune off the
vines and what not to? It is July 21st here in Spokane WA. I have a main
vine coming out and have trimed off other main vines coming out of my
beginning spot. I have little guys just beginning (pumpkins) but do you
think I still have time to get a big one? I was told to use (1 cup Docter
Pepper pop - 1/2 cup fish fertilizer to 2 gal water) to fertilize with but
do
not know how often at this point? Any help out there for this beginner???
