“Nothing yet” discussion interest me. In Texas the past few years we
have been dry & hot (even more dry and hot then normal). As matter of
fact the last two years it was over 100 degrees most days starting only
a couple of days after planting. This year (until yesterday) we have
been in low to mid 90’s and have had several small rains with humidity
after.
Listening to Kathie (& others from California) and seeing many posts on
odd weather including heat, cold, hail and even critters, I have felt
like WOW this feels very different to have everything going so well
(maybe the best in 10 or more years). We have had a lot of hail but it
was early enough to destroy cotton (over half our county hailed out),
but has left the pumpkins alone.
I have pie pumpkins beginning to change colors already. In the pasture
where we fed the culls last year the volunteer plants are fully mature.
Those horses spread the seed far & wide too. All varieties except AG way
ahead of schedule (they did not like our plant method); thank goodness
we were late planting this year. Normally our heat keeps pollination
delayed. We have been very fortunate.
Then, yesterday, over hundred, I found deer doe in field with twin fawns
and a boyfriend. They are fat & happy. Have sprayed twice by airplane
and found Squash Bugs (but no SVB). Worried pumpkins too far ahead of
schedule and will not hold through October.
So maybe everyone else will get back to normal. Pumpkins can make very
quickly, they seem to remember their age when bearing late.
