Actually the female flowers can only be pollinated for 3 or 4
hours in the morning they open - after that it is all over.  If
no males are around, the female is a goner.

Since you pulled all your squash, I guess you don't have to
worry about them horning in.....

To improve your chances, try helping nature and the bees. The
morning your female flowers open.  Pick a few male flowers and
gently swab pollen on the female with a small artist's brush.
