The past and future
Fellow Growers--the days seem to flash past when we are growing AGs and
before we know it weigh-off time will be here again.
All growers should be aware of the list at www.ipga.ws showing the top 10 AG
pumpkins,and their average weight,for 22 states and 7 provinces.
This is an interesting and important list that we should help keep up by
supporting Jim Gatewood with additions each year and corrections anytime as
they are needed.
To supply information we should make it known to the local "contact person"
who will coordinate the facts and forward them to Jim.In this way his job
will be easier and the risk lowered that there will be conflicting in
formation.
This is a "growers list",where anyone can have a say in their own
region.Just because a line shows on the list,it doesn't mean that errors
can't exist.Corrections can be forwarded by anybody,not just those on the
list.
I have reason to believe that Jim's great list may be published soon in a
different medium so therefore I encourage all growers to look over their own
list asap for possible improvements,including spelling.
Of course after the fall weigh-offs as the new weights come rolling in,we
should all be watching for 2003 AGs to be added to the lists.It should be
fairly easy to add a few new ones each year.
In Canada the provinces of Alberta,Saskatchewan and Newfoundland are not
listed and I would encourage anyone from those regions to get the
information together to make a list.If you know of only a few AGs then start
with those,10 are not a must and additions can be made later.Alberta should
be the easiest since there is a long term site at Smokey Lake and the
results are all available.Isn't there an Alberta grower with enought
interest to help the hobby in their province??
