If you're not concerned with controlling or knowing who the parents or
ancestors of the seeds inside your winning pumpkin are, then you don't need
to hand pollinate.  However, you then must be willing to accept that the
resulting seeds may be a cross with any pumpkin or squash in your
neighborhood and not necessarily reliable in the future.
