Need advice A.S.A.P please

Hello All
 
I have a pumpkin on my Houser 369.5 and it was 71 inches circumference
at 21 days. It is not round but kind of oblong so it's long and short
and the 71 inches probably doesn't mean much. Where my problem lays is
at the stem or just past the pumpkin is going to grow over the new
growth part of the main vine and I have already moved it as far as I can
with out the stem braking and I am afraid the vine will damage the
pumpkin. Can I cut the main vine off past the stem on the new growth
side with out hurting the plant? Thanks for any help. Oh one more thing
this is my only pumpkin on this plant.
