RE: Shading

Keep the soil moist but not wet.

Fertilize with water soluble fertilizer 20-20-20 and or liquid
fish/seaweed once a week but don't over do it. Steer manure will also
do.

Many growers use a cheep tarp like the blue ones found in most hardware
stores. You may have to cut it down to size.
You can drive four stakes in the ground, tie each corner of the tarp to
the stake and stretch it over the pumpkin about 3 or 4' above the
ground, or make a hoop house out of pvc pipe and make a hut over it.

If it's cool there, anyway you can keep the plant or ground warm may
help.
(Remay over the plant, warm water etc.)

Subject: Shading

Hello To All, First I would like to thank all the people on this group
for information you have given us to try to grow a big pumpkin, I read
every post and have learn't a lot, I'm out in Ontario/Canada trying to
grow a no-name alantic giant pumpkin, I find all the information that
comes on the list very helpfull, I have 3 pumpkins that are growing now,

there not to big yet, they just started to grow, so at this date,(little

bit bigger than a large grape fruit) does anyone think I can still get a

big one in time for the fair? The fair is Labour day weekend, is there
any hope for me? My second question is, when do I need to start shading,

and how high off the ground would you suggest to go with it, and what
do you use on top? If anyone would like to see my pumpkin patch, just
email, I have taken a few pics, P.S. How much water should I be giving

the pumpkins, do you's water every day or every other day?
Thank-you Lynda
