The brown spots may be sunburn. I've had the vine close to the
pumpkin that was buried burn badly once the pumpkin lifted it
into the sunshine. Place an old teeshirt or shade cloth over
the stem and the vine.
The true test is the pumpkin - is it still growing? If it is
still growing ok, leave it on the vine. If it stops - well,
problem solved......
