Re: stem splits
Hi, Kev!
Yeah, I've been shopping for just the right card for your pumpkin.
The split stem is on the 805 Pukos, but it looks like my 1354 Checkon also
has splits, so I'm guessing that my 725 K Morgan does too. The Morgan
germinated 4/20, went into the ground 4/26, got pollinated on 6/13, and
measured 52 inches around this morning. She's 5 inches bigger than the fruit
on the Pukos which is just 2 days younger.
The Checkon caught the creeping crud the week I planted it, and every cuke
beetle in Sonoma County makes a pilgrimage to her. I planted it 5/6, and
everything that could go wrong is ongoing. Early last week the main vine
broke off - critters in the patch I believe. David wants me to grow her out,
so ...
Ray called tonight. His son Skip, in Lakewood or Bellflower or somewhere,
was using a card table to shade his pumpkin, but the fruit no longer fits
beneath the table. Way to go, Skip, maybe it runs in the fambly.
Anyway, thanks for the good advice! More soon,
Kathie
