RE: Side viners

Cliff,

no matter what we say its always a crap shoot. Last year I culled a 20 day fruit on the main (63" c) in favor of a 10 day fruit also on the main. When the 10 day fruit became 20 days it had out done the original 20 day fruit by 14 " c (77" c) . I'm happy I did it and never looked back until weighoff. When they put it on the scale and told me it was 905.2 I thought it was a joke. unless the main vine fruit has something about it that makes it a poor candidate then I would give it the nod.

Some feel that an early commitment to a main-vine set is the only way to
"plumb" a plant for success.

It's getting late for a main set.....how soon is the next lady to arrive on
the main dance floor?
I've got a very similar dilemma. The 981 Zunino is the only plant I have that is worth anything. On it I have a gorgeous fruit on the first secondary that is approaching 50 inches, while on the main I have a fruit that is approaching 30 inches and growing as we speak. Now, I WANT to have two fruits, one for a fair and one for a final weighoff. I don't know what else the rest of the patch will give me. I should be able to produce some ugly 300 pounder from somewhere else in the patch....

Anyway, I'm faced with the decision, "Should I remove the fruit on the secondary and go for it all on the main vine fruit?" And then a question to the experts, if this secondary fruit is already at 50 inches, have I waited too long? Will the main vine fruit get a good benefit if I cull the secondary now?

Thanks in advance for any help, Cliff
