Re: pumpkins DIGEST V1 #183
Philip,
Oh oh!?Not my 759.5! ;-) ?Is this the vine to the pumpkin?? I try to keep my main vine under a remay in hopes of keeping the pipe from the pumpkin to the stump safe from borers and hail, etc.
I have to open the remay for the pumpkin...so try to spray the stem and the open MV as much as possible.
However, once they get in the vine...slice parallel with the vine and grab them out.
Good luck.

SVB in the patch. I have two plants; 759.5 Bhaskaran, and a 963.5 Tanner.
While inspecting them I found a bore hole in the vine of the Tanner. It
wasn't there 3 days ago and as I poked it with a twig the tail end of a grub
appeared. I got that thing out, sprayed the vine and loosely wrapped it with
landscaping fabric. I then inspected the 759.5 Bhaskaran and felt a soft
spot on the underside of the vine. I then did some heavy duty pesticide
spraying on the vine. I came back 2 hours later and found 3 grubs lying on
the ground next to the vine. Should I have slit the vine and looked for more
of them?
Philip

Doug,
Have basically 2 really going well (upper 20s in lbs/day)...but getting some
cold nights and things are slowing down a bit...so hopefully will get out of
the upper 40s and into the 60s again at night...which is the key as
prolonged cool weather will stunt them.?
Here are the top 2:
My 670 Daigle is 325lbs on day 28. (307lbs on day 27)
My 305 Beachy?is 297lbs on day 27.
I'll try to get a better update soon...just haven't had the time to get
pictures and my web page updated for 2007. :-)
Take care and good luck!
