What? Oregon Again?

Greetings,
Along time ago in a pumpkin patch far far away.......
Yep its update time once again for what its worth, and much has happened,
well some things have happened. The quest for the tonner has been started
here in the patch, for the big #627 plant has one set on the main runner
finally. Here is a break down on the babies.......
Site#1 Transplanted #627.5 Hester: Growing still at an alarming rate and
setting fruit left and right. Now as big as the big 627 plant, this baby is
doing great. No pumpkins have reached 14 days old yet for their first
measurement, but the young ones are looking very long with incredible
potential. The magic day is the 17 when the first pumpkin turns 14 days. I
can't wait.

Site #2 The #827 Holland: By far the weakest plant vegetatively, but also
still has the largest fruit in the patch. Like all Oregon/ pacific NW
pumpkins, the fruit are growing slowly but surely over the whole season. The
largest pumpkin "Arnold" was last measured on the 12th and had a total three
way measurement of 132 inches. Its shape is that of a mini #897.5 Larue with
the big shoulders and slanted nose. It is bright yellow with no ribs at all
yet.

Site #3 The #850.5 LaRue: With fingers crossed I await the 14 day
measurements for the young ones on this plant. Last year in the same site as
the 850, I grew a #833 Mombert. Ironically, the baby fruit are the same
shape on the 850 as they were on the 833. I hope this is not a sign, for
last years 833 aborted every single fruit it had at about the 14 day mark.
The Plant looks very healthy and strong, and the babies are doing great,
looking the shape of jumbo pink banana squash instead of pumpkins. Only time
will tell.

Site #4 The Big #627.5 Hester: Now struggling to stay ahead of the other
#627 as king of the patch, this monster keeps right on setting new records
for me. It has the number 1 and 2 fastest growing pumpkins I have ever had
at 14 days, one at 30.5 inches "Haus", and now "Doofus" at 32 inches. Haus
unfortunately showed me what it is like when a pumpkin grows too fast, for
the fool exploded. Looked like someone put a fire cracker in it. I didn't
shed any tears, for that baby was in a poor spot and would have been removed
anyway. As for Doofus, well it looks like a mini verson of the infamous
#910+ Nelson 94 and has the height, width and definately the length to
surpass its grandmother seed.

Take care all,,, Brett The Pumpkinguru
