Bill, Ron & Pumpkins,
I have resorted to using a chain saw on my 1006. Don't get me wrong I love
the plant but the vines are so large it is making it very difficult to
manipulate them when trying to bend the vine for setting up the fruit on
the outside curves.
I can only hope the plant lives up to it's size. Tiny Tim 1006Xself was
pollinated 7/10-baseball size -MV., this a.m. I pollinated Pee Wee,
1006X941 Eaton. Gumball size -MV. and have 3 others pollinated on the side
vines 1006X697.
I have started termination of side vines and found that if you keep an eye
on them and tip the vine at the end, say a foot before the vine reaches the
edge of your patch you should be in good shape. I did cut some off father
back that had gotten away from me but I noticed a fair amount of fluid
draining for a couple of days, on those I did not bury immediately. I Don't
know if this makes a difference but I have not noticed this fluid loss on
those vines I have cut at the very tips.
