The 'real' South

Fellow growers,

For those of you already weary of the Zoo Doo saga, it is indeed NOT
representative of the many fine growers from the southeastern United
States. This post was sent to inform those unaware of some of the fine
work being done in this part of the country more so than to provide a
disclaimer detaching ourselves from Joe's seemingly endless mailing list
antics.

We have created our own genetic software, put it place across the United
States, and are in the process of building the most complete pumpkin
and squash database in the world. I believe it is the only of it's kind
and, with the help of those in this region, the Midwest, and the Pacific
northwest we are proceeding to accomplish what no one else has yet to
attempt. The data is a culmination of the efforts of many and we are
eternally grateful for their foresight and drive.

We are presently starting work on a post weigh-off publication
spotlighting the top U.S. pumpkin and squash specimens for the 1998
season. It will feature photos, hierarchy trees, growth charts, grower
info, pumpkin info, and a decidedly 'no fluff-just facts' approach. It
promises to be a most unique and informative piece of work and one we
hope to make an annual event.

The aim of both these projects is to benefit those in all growing
climates all over the world not just the southeast. We cannot expect
consideration from the rest of the cucurbit community without first
proving our worth and determination and I hope our efforts here will
bring us one step closer to realizing that goal. Anyone interested in
either of these projects can contact me for more information.

"Grow it and they will come." This will be the new slogan for the
South. Until then, most of us will just keep our mouths shut, go with
the flow, and try a lot harder.
