Oregon Update

Yes its true listeners, the ever popular Oregon Update saga is back in its
pure form to create hope and overall well being to the growers of the world.
The crowds are amassing around my garden in hopes to catch a glimpse of that
first pumpkin to weigh over a ton, but I charge a lot to see it. Anyway, the
weather is better than it has been and sunburn is now the biggest problem in
the patch. Here is the low down for those who care...
Site #1 The #875 Lloyd is looking to be a squash. I have set 2 fruit now
with one 5 days old and it is still dark green. I am not at all disappointed
by this, but I have not heard of an 875 doing this. Oh well, a 1000 pound
squash would be cool too.
Site #2 The #697 Ciliberto has its first baby now and the plant is a
heavyweight. The young fruit is an elongated shape. The #615 Wilson is also
a tank and will set in a day or two its first baby.
Site #3 The #825 Shymanski is a large plant square footage wize at over 50 x
40 feet. It has 8 fruit set on it and I will begin thinning after the 14 day
measurements.
Fruit are all nice pumpkin shape, and 2 are doing well.
Site #4 The #827 Holland is trying very hard to impress me, but still is a
lightweight. I do have 6 babies on it, one of which is doing well.
Site #5 The #567.5 Mombert is doing well too, with 6 fruit on it as well.
The two biggest demonstrate the two basic shapes the 567.5 produces with one
being very long and the other big in the shoulders and tapers.
Site #6 The #627.5 is a moose of a plant with thick leaves, heavy. The main
runner is as thick as my wrist only 5 feet away from the end. There are 8
fruit on it now and all look good. 2 of them are 7 lobes and tied for biggest
pumpkin in the patch rights. The #469 is also a thick plant only with taller
tendencies. I didn't like the positioning of the first fruit it set, so I
removed them all and have started a new batch. This plant looks to have more
squash genetics in it than my other pumpkins do, but the fruit are yellow at
birth.
As for measurements, nothing is 14 days old yet, so sorry guys. 1200 pounds
or bust.......
