I am going to resign the directorship of the Southern Pumpkin Growers
Association as of this post. My strong opinions are my own and do not
reflect the other members of the SPGA but as founder of that association
there doesn't seem to be a way to seperate the SPGA from Joe Mills. It
would be better suited in the hands of a fine person like Barb Kincaid
of Florida who's temperment is perfectly suited for the position. She is
a strong individual with a vision for the SPGA that goes far beyond my
own. I have mentioned before that I come to this time and place as an
artist not a grower. It's what I have been for 30 years. I see the
possibilities and want to show them to others. I express myself,
sometimes harshly, but as an artist I don't restrain that impulse. It's
not the best temperment to represent a group of people like the great
individuals in the Southeast United States who are dedicated pumpkin
growers. I would hope that one of them will pick up where I have left
off and bring together the Southern United States in way that would show
just what the potential of the sport of giant pumpkin growing is all
about. I plan to still publish Southern Pumpkins but in a way as to not
associate it with SPGA. Whether I continue to publish it will be
assessed in the Spring after I see what support it may or may not have.
I would still be here for any advice needed on putting together a
newsletter or in any other way that would be helpful. I would not be
involved in a way that would blend my thoughts on the world of Giant
Pumpkin Growing with their's. I will stay on the list for awhile longer
to here comment any of these matters, talk a bit more about plans for
the Souths future and then leave the list. It just was not constructed
for those things I brought to it. The Pumpkin World is an amazing place.
