Sorry that your question was not answered as well as it should have been,
but I gather that the list is tired of the question as it was the topic of
choice in June (see the archives at

here is one of the better replies:This has been asked and answered about
three times over the last few months, but one more time should not hurt.
What you may be talking
about is the slitting of the vine just above the pumpkin and feeding
it milk through a wick and a bowl. This is looked at by some
groweres as cheating and is a pretty good way to kill your vine if
your don't do it exactly right. Hope that answers your question.
Maybe some of the more experienced groweres can help.
Just so everyone knows. The milking idea came from the book Little
House on The Praire. take it out of the library and check it out. It
doesnt work. A wive's tale. This list is the best source of Pumpkin
knowledge that there is and most of the time someone will have a good answer
